Azerbaijani show-business going bananas…

I am not going to comment on show-business as a whole, will stick to our local Azerbaijani show-biz here. Sometimes, our “stage stars” make these pathetic, useless comments that the press just swallows, and then spits out to the usual readers.

I’ll give a small example. Not so long ago, one of our national artists, singer Aybeniz Hashimova made a jaw-dropping statement, while being on a local TV-show. Basically, what she said was that most of our young singers suck, and her daughter (also singer) Aynishan is the next big thing.

“First of all, these singers are pathetic. They try to ruin my daughter’s career, and I know, that one day, God will punish them all for this. They are scared to say something to my face, so its all being done behind my back. They’re all worthless, compared to my daughter. No matter how hard they try, they won’t be able to do anything to her. One day, she will even get an Oscar, you’ll see. I think, they all need to undergo some treatment in a psychiatric hospital.”

First ever english podcast – Master of symphonic mugham

So, yesterday I finally did it – first english podcast was published on my working website ( I didn’t even realize, talking on the mic can be this frustrating – it took me 5 times to make it right. Yet, after I finished, and listened to the result, i still didn’t like it. My voice was literally screaming accent.

Anyway, this particular podcast is dedicated to the famous Azerbaijani composer, Fikret Amirov. He is rightfully considered one of the greatest composers that Azerbaijan has ever produced. He is also the one, who created the symphonic mugham. Podcast features the story of Amirov’s rise, memories of his son, his teacher, and other interesting facts.

Planning the “MTV event”…

Couple of days ago, I was invited to attend a planning event, for the upcoming MTV concert in Baku. Supposedly this is going to be something big – the whole show is reportedly to be broadcasted in 168 countries. Anyway, I went there, not sure what to expect. Eurasian MTV director, Matthew Goldstein knew me before the event, we got along pretty easily, he even promised me some exclusive stuff from the show. Needless to say I was glad, yet decided to wait, and see what was going on, and most importantly – how real it all was. Read the rest of this entry »
