Couple of days ago, I was invited to attend a planning event, for the upcoming MTV concert in Baku. Supposedly this is going to be something big – the whole show is reportedly to be broadcasted in 168 countries. Anyway, I went there, not sure what to expect. Eurasian MTV director, Matthew Goldstein knew me before the event, we got along pretty easily, he even promised me some exclusive stuff from the show. Needless to say I was glad, yet decided to wait, and see what was going on, and most importantly – how real it all was.
The event is going to take place on 13th of August. The DJ group Wonderland Avenue, which is best for its “Ride the White Horse” hit will perform in Baku, at the first local event to be broadcast by MTV, which will take place at Emin Agalarov’s new 7-Star Resort Sea Breeze hotel. The whole show is to be hosted by local MC Kamilla Babayeva and will feature local star Aysel Teymurzadeh (Azerbaijani 2009 Eurovision participant), as well as international superstars DJs Dan Balan, Ian Carey, and a special live dance performance to Yolanda Be Cool’s ‘We No Speak Americano’.
Sea Breeze will be decorated with fireworks, special laser and hydro effects, pools of white fish and white roses, and presents from the top luxury companies in Baku. The event will also be the first event in Baku to be broadcast live to the entire country by ANS radio. Finally, several Hollywood stars are expected to be in attendance as well as top local stars, politicians, and businessmen. The event will be broadcast as part of MTV’s overall coverage of Baku, which is meant to enhance the country’s image and attractiveness as a new, hot tourist destination.
